Dental Day, Lego Candy and Chili Cookoff!

Yes, well, it was a busy day! This morning we had a visit from the tooth fairy! Actually, it was Darcie Thornburn who is our school's Tooth Tutor! She came to teach about the proper way to brush your teeth (I need to practice brushing correctly) and about the importance of flossing! Miss Darcie also showed the amount of sugar in four typical beverages: water, white milk, chocolate milk and juice...you'd be surprised how much sugar is in "healthy" juice. She also shared the danger of eating fruit gummies which have the same amount of sugar as gummy bear candies! Yikes!

Of course it just had to be today that I brought CANDY to school to share with the class!!! I was in Maine and although some of the kids asked for shells (way too cold for the beach), I stopped at the biggest candy store I've ever been to and they had candy in the shape of Legos! I brought a bag back and we shared them! Here are some pictures of the kids building before they ate them!

And finally, tomorrow night several of our faculty members are entered into a chili contest! Jeff O'Hara thought it might be a fun way to heat up a chilly winter evening! I've got chili on the stove warming up right now!!! Please feel free to stop by school around 5:00 for a sampling! I think the judging will begin around 5:00 as well! Bring a roll of Tums, too, just in case!

Stripe Team Day!

To help drum up interest in our school food drive, our middle school students challenged grade teams to dress in a theme and bring more cans and boxes! Our first grade team chose stripes! Check out these cool kids!

New Year's Resolutions!

It's that time of year when we all think back on our lives and decide what we might be able to do in the future to make ourselves better...six and seven-year-old children don't have quite as far back to look, but they still created their own New Year's Resolutions! Here are a few samples!

From Resolutions
I wonder what she's saving her money for...?

And here is another...

From Resolutions
This child will: "Try new foods. Save my money. Eat more vegetables. Don't use that much paper." The trees of the world let out a collective sigh!

And here is yet another...
From Resolutions
This child will: "Clean my room. Stop eating a lot of candy. Do what my parents say." I say this is cause for celebration at home!

And another...
From Resolutions
This child plans to: "Eat less candy. Fight less. Watch TV less. Play outside more. Clean my room."

It looks like you can all count on cleaner rooms! Many decided to eat less candy and save more money! You'll want to check out your child's New Year's Resolutions when you visit school or when they come home!
Happy New Year!
